5/23/02
Today I was driving through the plaza parking lot and a guy dressed in a bee costume was coming out of a restaurant, no lie, and as soon as he saw me he waved like we knew eachother. I waved back with an enormous smile on my face.
Say Never
breaking into what once could have been
a nice little side porch cot nap
and messin the whole trip up
with one mistaken laugh
you might go outside to take pictures
or just lay in the white stone weed driveway
pissed
listening to the neighbors’ radio
you might make eggs
in the morning.

Cottage
stuffed questions of sitting stillness
in quiet white hankys of blowing ocean curtains
you ask how to stay in the crooks of the historic bed sheets
how to remain a fat mouse forever.

Fence with little purpose
Bigger than crawling under rugs with fat bells...
The world walks silent on ocean sneakers,
reaches with grey cloud hands
In the absence of things that matter
Together like sharp sticks
She speaks easy and cool, eyes finding meaning
dying treetops
Write your name in the book boldly for no man but yourself.

Just Stay
Forget that one battered coat is like giving in.
Whatever knifing-knuckled winter drives you’ve been through
you’ll be through at least one more
and it really does dance better
over smoke.
